Sport
Sport is a generalist term for any physical activity undertaken in a competition for a common goal of winning. Sport requires skill and strategy. In many cases sport is just played for fun, but, there are many people who play a sport for their job, for example, footballers, rugby players, athletes and tennis players just to name a few. Sport is generally a competitive activity, but is enjoyed by competitors.
Many people start taking part in sporting activities from a young age at school. Most schools will have a sports day in the summer of each year which the entire school will participate in; the days are usually a very enjoyable day for teachers and pupils. Many pupils at school will join a sports team either one joined to the school or one as an outside team; for example, many children go to football training either during the week or at weekends. This is good for the children as they get regular exercise and they learn how to work as part of a team. They also enjoy themselves!
At school level sport is not as competitive as it is in later life. During high school some pupils playing sport begin to get very competitive and this competitive attitude is what drives people to play sport and potentially win. Many high schools will have competitions against each other and this can generate rivalries amongst schools.
Sport is a brilliant way of exercising and making friends as most sports will involve being part of a team. Teamwork is very important in many sports as each member of the team has to help support the rest of the team.
