Football

Football is a sport enjoyed by many people. A game of football is played with two teams of 11 players; however, there are several variations of this depending on the type of match players want to participate in. For example in some cases a game of football is played with five players on each team. This is generally a shorter game of football and does not occur in league games. Football is played on a rectangular pitch of grass or artificial grass. The object of football is to get a ball into the opposition's goal; goals are placed on shortest sides of the pitch in the middle.

In football there are many different types of players. There will be a goalkeeper who stands in or next to the goal posts; their job is to defend the goal posts for incoming shots from the opposition. Goalkeepers are the only players that are allowed to handle the ball with their hands and they will wear a special kind of gloves to protect their hands.

Other players include defenders and strikers and centres. Defenders are supposed to defend their goals, this helps the goalkeeper as the defence try and keep the ball away from the goal as much as possible. Strikers are the players who score goals, they are the one who have to pass the oppositions defenders and fool the goalkeeper to score points. Centres are placed in the middle of the pitch and they help the rest of their team keep possession of the ball.
